Pommard 1er cru Rugiens

Appellation
Pommard-Rugiens 1 er cru
Region
Appellation: 1er cru of the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte D’Or
Location
The same kind of Burgundy wine for centuries: red, bursting with colour, strong bouquet, firm and fair. Pommard: this generous name has a good ring to it. By itself it fills the glass and the mouth. Located in the Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard, with its vineyards and beautiful houses, marks where the Côte tilts slightly towards Autun. Once the lands belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy, religious establishments such as Cîteaux abbey, and old families like the Marey-Monges... Ever since the Middle Ages, Pommard has been thought of as "the finest wine from the Beaune region". It is the wine of reference... Exclusively a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was established in 1936 - one of the first.
The Terroir
On the lower part, ancient alluviums, then, in the middle of the slopes, the clay and limestone soils are well drained thanks to gravel formed from rock debris. Higher still are the Oxfordian (Jurassic) marls, brown calciferous and brown limestone soils. Sometimes the soil is turned red by iron oxide. Facing the rising sun and the mid-day sun. Altitude: between 250 and 330 metres.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINE
Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, redcurrant, cherry-stone and mature plum. It is not uncommon for it to evolve towards feline, wild notes over time. With maturity these develop into leather, chocolate, pepper notes. A wine that you should let age so that it opens to its full extent and displays its rounded texture, its delicate yet firm structure, its fruity mouthfeel and its chewy tannins, which will be properly smoothed by then. Rich? Definitely.
